E. H. Pete Mason
It is by no means easy to describe within the limits of this obituary a man who has led an active life and by his own faithful efforts reached a position of trust and responsibility in his line of work, and in his life.
Pete Mason, 91, of Ojai passed away Oct. 18, 2006 in Ojai. He was born in Ramona, S.D., and moved to Benton County, Arkansas while still a young boy. He came to Ojai in 1935.
Securing a job with the California Division of Highways (now Caltrans), he found himself busy working on the construction of the tunnels and bridges on the newly constructed Maricopa Highway. Upon his retirement in 1977, he took on the job of delivering flowers for his son's Village Florist and volunteering for Help of Ojai.
He was a man of genial and friendly disposition, he had gained a wide circle of acquaintances and among them a host of warm and loyal friends, who esteem him for his genuine worth as a man and a citizen.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine Mason, whom he married in 1938 in the Ojai First Baptist Church; son, David Mason of Ojai; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Linda Mason of Arkansas; daughter Margot Stockstill of Irvine; grandsons and their wives, Timothy and Lauri Mason and Matthew and Becky Mason; grandsons, Mason and Patrick Stockstill; and great-grandchildren, Wren, Erin, Pete and Gracie Mason.
A service was held on Tuesday, Oct. 24, at Clausen Funeral Home with Pastor Chad Zaucha of the First Ojai Baptist Church officiating. Interment followed at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura.
