Robert William Miller Jr. - OBITUARY

Robert William Miller Jr., 93, passed away on May 25, 2015 in Huntington Beach, Orange, CA, due to incidents of old age. He was born September 15, 1921 in Garland Township, Benton, Arkansas to Robert William and Dora Ann (Callis) Miller and was the 9th of 10 children. In 1924, the family left Arkansas for California, landing in Ojai, CA.

He joined the U.S. Army during WWII at age 18 and was sent to Fort Lewis, WA. He served for 6 years and eventually went to North Africa and Europe. After returning home from his service, Bill courted and married Alice (Alyce) Marie Smith of Preston, ID on Nov 22, 1946 in Ojai, CA. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. They are the parents of three sons, Robert Miller III, Rancho Cucamonga, CA; Douglas Miller, Huntington Beach, CA; and Thomas Miller, Mesa, AZ. Bill and Alyce lived in Ojai, CA; Twin Falls & Burley, ID; LaPuente, CA; Chowchilla, CA; Hemet, CA and San Jacinto, CA.

Early on in his career, Bill worked for Layne & Bowler, a deep well water pump business, moving from CA to ID. The family later moved back, where he opened his own business, Bill Miller Pumps in San Jacinto, CA. He retired and sold his business to his son, Bob.

His beloved wife Alyce, died on June 14, 1987. He married Pearl Olie (Noorlander) DeWitt and they were later divorced. He then married Gene Avis (Chisam) Lathan.

Bill is preceded in death by his spouses, parents, 3 sisters: Cora Margaret Miller, Violet Maxine Miller, Winnie Ruth Miller and 6 brothers: Elisha True Miller, John Hershel Miller, James Herbert Miller, Dick Clifford Miller, Donald Robert Miller, Jesse Kennedy Miller and a granddaughter, Renee Lynn (Miller) Allen.

Bill and Alyce's posterity includes 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at the Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, CA.
